Leather product exports up during second half of 2013

Exports of leather goods from Pakistan saw an increase of 9.9% during first five months of current fiscal year 2013-14 against the same period of last year. Leather goods exports were recorded at US$263.1 million between July-November 2013-14 against $239.4 million of last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), exports of leather garments increased by 8.7% during the period under review against the same period last year. Leather garment exports during the period under review were recorded at $179.7 million against $165.3 million the previous year. Export of leather gloves increased by 13.9% which stood at $78.6 million during July-November 2013-14 compared with $69.1 million between July-November 2012-13.
Other leather goods, however, witnessed a decline of 5.9% during the same period.
