Florence based fashion school, Polimoda, and the fashion label Valentino have joined forces to offer a postgraduate diploma in Bag Design, including leather bags and small leather goods.
The nine-month master degree course includes classes, workshops and aims to guarantee “a well-rounded education in the area of leather goods, merging a creative approach with hands-on craftsmanship”. According to Polimoda, the course will provide an in-depth study of production techniques and materials, merchandising strategy and collection planning to form the accessory designers of the future, for both leather goods and small leather goods, “with a strong and forward-thinking creative direction”.
Starting in January 2019 and taught in English, students will develop a collection project to be presented as both the ‘Mid-term’ (capsule collection) and ‘Final Project’ (main collection), valid as a personal portfolio. Prerequisites to enter the course include previous studies in areas related to fashion design and accessories design or professional experience in the business.
Earlier in July, Polimoda announced a partnership with Italian label Salvatore Ferragamo for a Masters in Shoe Design. In 2017, French conglomerate LVMH announced its Institut des Métiers d’Excellence (IME) had expanded to Italy, selecting leading Italian fashion school Polimoda as its first partner for training of leather goods artisans in the country.
