The global sportswear brand is to invest US$184 million in a new Air Manufacturing Innovation (Air MI) facility based in Goodyear, U.S. state of Arizona.

Nike said it is “making a significant manufacturing investment in its U.S. innovation footprint”, whereby it expects to generate more than 500 full-time jobs for an investment of at least US$184 million. Building renovations are to begin later this summer and production of Nike Air soles is expected to start in early 2020. “When complete, the new Air MI facility will help meet growing demand for Nike’s most distinctive innovations”, said the manufacturer.

The new Arizona facility is Nike’s third manufacturing site dedicated to Nike Air. Alongside Nike Air MI’s existing facilities in Oregon and Missouri, which have recently undergone their own expansions, the new Arizona location will bring together experts in design, engineering, and product creation “to deliver the next era of Nike Air” and will scale up the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainable innovation. According to the manufacturer, currently, every Nike Air sole innovation since 2008 contains at least 50% recycled manufacturing waste diverted from landfills.
