Taking place on September 4 under the theme ‘Redesigning a Future for Leather’, the Shanghai Shake-Up conference will host two discussion panels, ‘How to Transform the Role of the Tanner’ and ‘Why Aren’t Designers Using Leather?’.
Three speakers will join the first panel ‘How to Transform the Role of the Tanner’; Mike Redwood from Leather Naturally, Jeanete Jost Colette from Jost & Collet Leather Consultancy, and Zhao Ziling from Fenice. They will discuss how leather as a traditional material has lost much of its market and how the role of the tanner with regards to innovation and development will have to change.
Joined by six industry representatives, including Kerry Brozyna from Wolverine, Orietta Pelizzari from Mattori Studio Milan and Jacopo Pesavento from Branding Records, the second panel titled ‘Why Aren’t Designers Using Leather?’ will discuss how, despite hide prices being at their lowest levels today, less leather is finding its way into footwear, apparel, leather goods and automobiles. Attendees will hear from designers why the material is not making its way back into the market what can be done to change that.
The free-to-attend conference takes place during the ACLE on September 4, 2pm-4pm, at the Leather Naturally Zone located in Hall E1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
