China’s retail sales up 4.3% in October

Retail sales of consumer goods in China reached CNY3.858 trillion (US$587 billion) in October, up 4.3% compared with the same month in 2019.

According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, total retail sales in October were also 1% higher than in the previous month of September. Excluding automobiles, retail sales of consumer goods totalled CNY3,486.8 billion (US$530 million), a 3.6% increase year-on-year.

Between January and October, total retail sales of consumer goods declined 5.9% compared with the same period in 2019. Over the same period, domestic online retail sales increased 10.9% year-on-year, with sales of clothing and consumer goods having increased by 5.6% and 17.4%, respectively.
