The French automotive Group said the health and economic crisis in 2020 was also an opportunity to develop onlines sales.
PSA Groupe’s sales volumes are reported to have recovered strongly in Europe in the second half of 2020, up 40% against the first half and the Group said it returned to growth in the last quarter with an increase of its market share (+0.5pt versus Q3), with an increase for Peugeot (+ 0.1 points year-on-year) and DS Automobiles (+0.1 points year-on-year on the premium market), and a rebound of Opel-Vauxhall in the fourth quarter, up 0.3 points compared with the same quarter in 2019. PSA said it remained focussed on CO2 performance and met European targets in 2020, to which it committed.
PSA’s market share in Middle East and Africa gained 2.1 points at 7.2% in the second half of 2020. In a market that has declined 14%, the regional deliveries have increased 21% compared with the second half in 2019, to over 201,000 units. In China, after a challenging first half, PSA said sales have been growing month-on-month from September onwards, and reached in December 2020 the level of December 2019. The new business model of DS in China is in place with a fully owned subsidiary focussed on execution with cars either imported or locally manufactured. In India and Asia Pacific, the Group reported an improved market share, in spite of a 6.6% decrease in consolidated sales, beating a market in decline of 18.3% compared to 2019.
In Latin America, decreases in the second half ranged from -27% to -31% compared with 2019. In Argentina, PSA’s market share increased from 10.1% in 2019 to 10.5% in 2020, supported by launches such as the New Peugeot 208 and the Citroën C5 Aircross. The New Peugeot Landtrek 1-tonne pickup truck was launched in the second half of 2020 in Mexico, where the Group’s market share is now above 1% for the first time.
PSA said its electric offensive continued throughout the year, with all brands now offering either electric plug-in hybrid or full electric models. Currently, Groupe PSA offers to customers a choice of 171 electrified models. By the end of 2021, its electrified range is expected to consist of 23 models, with six new electrified vehicles coming during the year.
